This advance is a loan from the record company that is used to pay for studio time and other services needed to get your record (music) in retail outlets, and break your record. If the artist is smart, they should invest in recording equipment and tool that will aid them in advancing.
With the fame you see with major recording artist, maybe so. However you have to work for that money. You have to deal with all kinds of industry people, and not all people in this business are what you expect them to be. With that being said, always be nice, humble yourself, and learn to do away with ego. Advertising companies are coming up with ways to include short form advertisement in downloadable and streaming music. This give the artist the option to make revenue off their music just by letting advertising agencies place short audio ads on your download.
That is just one stream of income. Artist and musicians, please listen to this very carefully… You can make money from doing a lot of things, you have to remember it’s takes a lot of work to break a hit. This work includes, performing in venues in a region or on national level, publicity, in store promotions, promotions, etc. This all requires some time and money. To break a record takes a lot of time and effort. Even if your trying to get the attention of a major record label, it requires work. Those major recording artist earn that money. They work day in day out, traveling all over never having time for them self and more.
The many ways musicians generate income can come from Television commercial jingles, song writing, getting your music in a movie sound track or video game, etc. With the many movie production companies and videos games coming out there should be no excuse. So start your mission now.
